FASHION WITH TESSA - HANDBAG CLEANING

Do you replace your fabric and leather handbags on a regular basis because they become soiled and stained? Using a professional leather specialists can often cost almost as much as replacing the bag. If only there were another way...a cheaper way...

Well, there is. Here are some tips:

1. Try using a kneaded eraser (available at art supply stores) to remove grime from leather bags.

2. If the bag can be wet, whisk to a froth a few squirts of liquid glycerin facial soap and two cups of warm water. Dip a cloth into the foam to clean the leather. Rinse with a clean, damp cloth. Let dry. NOTE: test this on a small, unnoticeable area of the bag first.

3. To remove ballpoint ink stains on fabric or leather, dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol. Dab gently on the stain until it disappears, changing cotton balls as they become dirty with ink. Wipe with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Apply leather conditioner to the leather. NOTE: again, test a small, unnoticeable area first.
