It’s that time of year—the time when mail carriers
groan under the constant onslaught of holiday catalogs. I receive at least two
or three a day from mid-October through mid-December. Order something once from
a mail-order company, and you get on every catalog mailing list under the sun. The
other day I received a high-end gift catalog with drool-worthy Christmas décor
and ornaments. Of course, the prices were sky-high, and after thumbing through
the catalog it went directly into the recycling pile.
However, I did notice that many of the items they
featured could be created in less than an hour with a few craft items and a
glue gun. Here’s one of them I made from scraps of metallic braid and a
Styrofoam ball. (Never toss trim, ribbon, and braid scraps, no matter how
small. You never know when a 4” length may come in handy.)
Metallic Christmas
Ball Ornament
Materials:
3” Styrofoam ball
assorted 1/8” wide metallic trims, braids, and/or
cords in varying lengths
low-temp glue gun
1. Poke a hole in the top of the Styrofoam ball.
2. Cut a 9” length of braid. Glue cut ends into hole,
poking down into ball for hanging loop. Allow to dry.
3. Wrap braids around ball, tacking occasionally with
glue.
