Tomorrow is Read Across America Day, created in 1997
by the National Education Association. Each year Read Across America Day is
held on the school day closest to March 2nd, the birthday of
Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. This signature program focuses on
motivating children and teens to embrace the joys of reading. Research shows
that children who are motivated to read do better in school.
In celebration of Read Across America Day, students,
teachers, parents, and all lovers of books are asked to share the childhood
book that meant the most to them. Take a picture of the book and post on social
media with the hashtags #shelfie and #ReadAcrossAmerica.

How about you? What are some of your favorite children's books, either from your own childhood or ones you enjoyed reading to your own children?
My favorites are "The Story of Ferdinand" and "The Velveteen Rabbit." I'm also a big fan of "Horton" and love "Horton Hears a Who!"
