AN INTERVIEW WITH A CROP-DUSTING SLEUTH

Today we welcome a special guest blogger, Eula Mae Bains, aero-ag pilot and star of RP Dahlke’s Dead Red Cadillac mystery series.

RP Dahlke writes humorous mysteries about an annoyingly tenacious tall, blonde and beautiful, ex-model turned crop-duster, who’s “been married so many times they oughta revoke (her) license.” Learn more about her and her books at her website and blog.

My name is Eula Mae Bains, so named for my great-aunt, on my daddy's side, the Texas side, or the stubborn side, depends on who you ask.  My brother, who couldn't wrap his tongue around Eula Mae, promptly shortened it to Lalla, and it has remained the same; through school, then a stint in N.Y. City as a runway model, and couple of bum marriages, and back to runways flying as an Aero-Ag pilot for my dad in the central valley of California.

I've been told I'm a busybody, sticking my nose in where it's not wanted, or needed, but after my vintage red Caddy (A Dead Red Cadillac) was found tailfins sticking out of a local lake with an acquaintance strapped into the driver's seat, I was left in the hot seat with City police, not to mention most of the population of Roxanne's Café, my home away from home in Modesto, California.

All that unwanted attention was enough to motivate me to get right on it. Uncover the culprit, bring him or her to justice. Not that I knew what I was doing, that is, until the killer made it perfectly clear unless I quit nosing around where I shouldn't, I was next.

What—and let a killer get away with murder? Not a chance. I'm not going to be intimidated into silence when an innocent woman has been murdered, and certainly not when someone thinks they can pin a murder on me. I've been called impetuous, stubborn, nosy and downright reckless. Let 'em!

And I've been at it ever since, from A Dead Red Cadillac, A Dead Red Heart, A Dead Red Oleander, A Dead Red Alibi, A Dead Red Miracle and coming soon, A Dead Red Gamble.

BOOK CLUB FRIDAY--ANASTASIA AND HER FELLOW SLEUTHS TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME

Anastasia here! If you love mysteries, you’re going to love this! Author Lois Winston, she who created moi, recently got together with nine of her writing buddies to join her in a project she’d had percolating for some time.

It turns out that there are actually mystery readers out there who have never heard of me. Can you imagine? So Lois figured if that was the case with me, the same was probably true for the sleuths her friends had created. We sleuths want readers to know about our exploits. We’re proud of the cases we’ve solved, especially when we figure things out well before the cops.

So Lois thought, what if she gathered together the first books in ten established mystery series and bundled them together into one awesome ebook boxed set? And what if she then priced that set of ten books at an incredible bargain? Wouldn’t that tempt mystery readers to get to know all of us? So that’s exactly what she did.

Sleuthing Women: 10 First-in-Series Mysteries is a collection of full-length mysteries featuring murder and assorted mayhem by ten critically acclaimed, award-winning, and bestselling authors.
