We’re learning more and more everyday about the health benefits of certain herbs and spices. Today health editor Janice Kerr takes a look at cinnamon. -- AP
Studies show that cinnamon is good for your heart. One teaspoon a day can lower cholesterol, reducing your risk of heart disease. Start your day off right by sprinkling a teaspoon of cinnamon on your morning oatmeal. Or add a teaspoon to fresh fruit and cottage cheese or yogurt. Cinnamon is also delicious mixed into applesauce or sprinkled over pancakes or waffles. You can also stir it into your tea or coffee or warm apple cider.
And it smells so good! Thanks, Janice. Readers, can you think of other ways to add cinnamon to your diet? -- AP

I've heard cinnamon is good for your health, but didn't know it was for lowering cholesterol. I love cinnamon & could easily incorporate a teaspoon into my diet. Thanks for sharing!
I have heard that cinnamon is good for diabetes also.
When I discovered sn..k..s in my basement, a botanist advised they hated cinnamon and would leave. She lied but, had it worked, would have done wonders for my heart.
I sometimes add it to my omelette--just a bit.
Cinnamon is what finally worked to get rid of ants in my kitchen. I wanted a natural remedy, because I had a trail of the buggers on my kitchen counter & into a cupboard. I now have 2 toddler grandkids & 2 cats, so I'll use it again, if I ever have another ant problem. (I used ground cinnamon, but I've read cinnamon sticks also work).
Cinnamon has always been one of my favorite spices and I have seen several recent articles about its health benefits. There are so many different ways it can be used. I would certainly feel good about incorporating it into my diet.
Barbara, stick with us. You never know what you'll learn from day to day! ;-)
Wendy, good to know about cinnamon being good for diabetes.
Liz, if I found a snake in my basement, I'd make a beeline for the exit, not the cinnamon!
Mollie, on an omelette? Intriguing!
Barbara, I guess I'd rather have ants than snakes. Good to know cinnamon got rid of them.
Jane, my favorite way to eat cinnamon is sprinkled on applesauce.
